Smoke Testing
Smoke testing is a quick and cost-effective way of detecting leaks in underground pipe systems. Detection of surface water inflow into sanitary systems is one of the common uses of smoke testing.
These inflow sources can be from damaged sections of pipe, crossed connections between the storm and sanitary sewer systems, or uncapped service connections, to name a few. Inflow of excess water is costly and adds unnecessary additional volume to treatment plants.
Smoke testing forces smoke through any possible leak in the pipe in a very short period of time. After documenting the location of leaks above surface, further investigation or repair can be performed later on.
